Taka Kigawa performs Olivier Messiaen: “Catalogue d’Oiseaux”

Critically acclaimed pianist, Taka Kigawa will present a solo recital performing the Olivier Messiaen’s monumental masterpiece “Catalogue d’Oiseaux”. The “Catalogue d’Oiseaux” is a challenging piece of music because it consists of seven books with 77 bird songs that unfolds in a series of 13 movements, totaling at three hours of solo piano music. Taka Kigawa has earned international recognition as a recitalist, soloist and chamber music artist since winning first prize at the prestigious 1990 Japan Music Foundation Piano Competition in Tokyo. Last year at Le Poisson Rouge, he performed Chopin’s Preludes, Op. 28, and Debussy’s Preludes, Books 1 and 2, in their entirety from memory.
