A Food Conference Promoting Japanese Rice—“The Japan Rice Peace Project 2017”

A Food Conference “The Japan Rice Peace Project (JRPP) 2017” took place on Sept. 19 having Mrs. Akie Abe, the First Lady of Japan, as its guest of honor of Japan. As a stateswoman, human rights activist and farmer, Mrs. Abe is the leading spokesperson for the Japan Rice Peace Project and has been an avid supporter of its endeavors since the program’s incipience.

The theme of this year’s JRPP conference was “Food: An Instrument of Diplomacy,” and it featured a panel of experts presenting and debating their perspectives in a roundtable discussion. Among the invited panelists were Dr. Scott H. Sicherer, Medical Director, Clinical Research Center Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, John Mason, Professor of Political Science, William Paterson University, Mrs. Bronwyn Starr, Senior Program Officer of New York State Health Foundationand Ms. Qiana Mickie, Executive Director of Just Food. Ms. Kylie Wright-Ford, co-author of Leadership Mind Switch, moderated discussions on a wide range of issues such as the role of food in diplomacy and global food policies and standards. The event also linked international companies and Japanese government-supported campaigns to promote sustainable foods and healthful disaster relief foods. At the reception following the event, dishes prepared by Zuma Restaurant and Dassai were served.
