I hear that there are sake meet up and sushi meet up.

I don't know about meeet ups, but there are a couple of free sake tasting events in liquor stores. I like the one at Sakaya (324 E. 9th St). There will be one tomorrow from 3pm. That's absolutely free. I don't know about free sushi tasting, though.

Thank you, Geiin Bashoku,Sakaya is only 2 blocks away from where I live and I went there on Sat. and really enjoyed the sake they served for tasting and their plum wine was so yummy.
Too bad the plum wine is not available in US.
