On Friday, April 16, 2010, Columbia Japan Society will be hosting “Matsuri 2010” on the Columbia University campus (2960 Broadway New York, NY 10027-6902). There will be a variety of food and fun activities modeling a typical Japanese festival, including cotton candy, goldfish scooping, water-yo-yo fishing, various Japanese food vendors, New York-based Japanese bands and Taiko (Japanese drum) group to be enjoyed by people from all over and of different age groups. Some of the Japanese food vendors that will be setting up booths at “Matsuri 2010” include Go Go Curry, Oms/B, and Hakata TONTON.
Columbia Japan Society is a student organization at Columbia University, which serves to promote Japanese culture to a broader community. “Matsuri” is a Japanese cultural festival that initially began in 2004 as a means to achieve this organizational motto, and the number of participants has been increasing each year. At last year’s “Matsuri 2009,” we were able to obtain approximately 1,500 attendees. Each year, “Matsuri” enjoys popularity among not only those of the university community, but also people living in various parts of Manhattan and neighboring boroughs.
