Few puzzles have swept the world and created such passionate devotees as Sudoku and crosswords. While crosswords require specific linguistic capability, Sudoku players only need to understand basic numbers, a feature that makes Sudoku particularly transnational and global. Maki Kaji, godfather of Sudoku and President of Nikoli Company and Will Shortz, Crossword Puzzle Editor, The New York Times, discuss the similarities and differences of crossword puzzles and Sudoku as well as trends and themes driving the popularity of puzzles around the world today.

I love Sudoku! It always keeps me entertained when I ride the train, but sometimes I get frustrated with the harder puzzles and play my iPhone instead.
OMG! I love sudoku too, but whenever my roommates find me doing sudoku, he tells me to get a life, whatever that means.
Excuse me for saying this but, KITI KAT your roommate is an idiot. I do sudoku everyday whenever I have time. It exercises my brain and keeps you alert. It is a way of life, like jogging for health.
wow, people are really into sudoku. it sounded like a japanese word but i did not know it was until my sister told me. i'm a 2nd generation japanese american and i've try to do sudoku but i can't really find out the rules. i was never a math person. i'm more of a crossword puzzle kinda gal.
Hey Kate, once you get the rule, you'll be into it. The rule is simple. Start with easy one. It requires other part of your brain, but believe me, it refreshes your brain, really.
My sister loves Sudoku, but she never finishes a puzzle. She gets frustrated with one puzzle, and starts a whole new one. Isn't that strange?
