Attention all Anime fans: Bandai Visual Entertainment will be releasing the Japanese Anime Akira on Blu-ray Disc on 2/24 in the United States (and 2/20 in Japan). The disc will be AVC MPEG-4 with lossless Japanese audio in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (24 bit/192 kHz) and linear PCM Dolby Surround. Dubbed English audio will available in standard Dolby Digital 5.1, and you'll also find English and Japanese subtitles. Extras will include a booklet, trailers and video storyboards.
I have a copy of Akira on VHS, laserdisc, DVD, and now I'm going to be forced to buy it on Blu-Ray Disc. I can't believe how much money I've spent on this movie, but it's a classic and I'm sure it'll look amazing in high-definition.
That's an epoch-making movie, but it's 20 years old, you know. I don't know it's worth buying Blu-Ray. How about DiCaprio version of Akira going. Do you have any info?
I don't even know if it's still in production. After seeing the new Dragonball Z live-action movie trailer, I think they should just leave Akira alone. They'll mess it up.
