August 22-28
The selection process for the next cover artist of Chopsticks NY took 3 months. Each of the four finalists, Yoko Furusho, Asuka Hishiki, Fay Ryu, and Chiaki Uchida, has a completely different style, but all of them understand the concept of the magazine well and represent Japanese culture in their own way. Their original works will be exhibited at NY Coo Gallery. The opening reception will be held on August 22nd from 5pm to 7:30pm.
Location: 20 W. 22nd St. (bet. 5th & 6th Aves.), New York, NY 10010

The gallery opening reception was awesome. I go to Coo Gallery sometimes because my Japanese friend has an exhibit there, but I've never see that many people there. I got to see the artworks by the finalists of the contest which was interesting, but most of all, I got to try a few kinds of sake for free. I was never a sake drinker, but it might have converted me to a sake lover!
I went there also. I did not expect that many people. It was even difficult to get to see the artworks. But the free sake, beer and food was all good. I love Chopsticks NY, it a great way to get to know what's happening in the city for some one like me who likes Japanese culture. I am hoping they do the cover contest again cus I'm an artist and it's looking like a great way to get an exposure.
I was there at the gallery opening too. Does anyone know where I can by the sake Dassai(?)in the city. I live in the upper east side.
You could try Mr. Wright at 3rd Ave. (bet 89th and 90th) if you live in upper east side.
